Stuff that’s okay to post, as detailed by Ana:
Rules and Reminders
If I see someone off-topic
I would flag the post and let the leaders deal with it, instead of going into a chat about whether something is off-topic or not. This will make both of your contents “off-topic”. You will get community warnings because of this, so watch out!
If I’m not sure something is off-topic or not
Chances are, I will think, does what I say help me or someone else better understand Hopscotch or use Hopscotch? If not, it’s off-topic! If you’re not sure, hold it because usually it is.
Does this mean I cannot make jokes?
Jokes are tricky, so I’d say stay away unless you really know what you’re talking about. What you consider funny might not be funny for someone else, especially online. Even if it’s not your intention, you might hurt someone’s feeling. You will also receive warnings for making inappropriate jokes
"Man, this is boring, I can’t do anything."
There’s a lot of things you can talk about in Hopscotch! Maybe the forum is not the most ideal social platform for you, and you’re not forced to stay. What we want to remind everyone is to respect the purpose and expectations of this space. Ultimately, we created this space for people to discuss coding and learn.
"Off-topic is a small thing, no one would care about it."
That is not true! If you do it enough times, you will get warnings, silencings, even suspensions on your account. However, before taking those measures, Leaders will introduce a “Slowmode” on the topic, meaning that you can only post once every few minutes. This is to facilitate more productive discussions, and to avoid topic closure. This will happen when the discussions get extremely off-topic or guidelines start being broken, so be mindful when you see one!
What else should I beware of?
Have you ever noticed that we don’t allow people to post less than a certain characters? Usually shorter responses are un-productive and will lead to more unproductive and off-topic chats. One secret for staying away from being off-topic is to consolidate your ideas into one post, and not post like you’re texting someone.
