Have you ever been overwhelmed by all the different blocks in Hopscotch? In this release, you’re getting a Full/Lite keyboard switch for your Hopscotch keyboard! The Lite keyboard contains only the essential blocks that will help you kick off your Hopscotch journey quickly. Look for the keyboard switch button on the top right corner of the keyboard when you are coding. We can’t wait to see all the fabulous projects you will create!
If you have any questions/comments/feedback, please email us at help@gethopscotch.com.
As always, happy Hopscotching!
But now that the Lite Keyboard hides some of the more advanced blocks (including those that are actually advanced mode exclusive), is Advanced Mode even necessary anymore? The subscription is still useful because you get “free” [1] custom art with it.
well, at no seed cost, you still have to pay the subscription renewal ↩︎

It sneakily forces your Advanced Mode off. However, it doesn’t turn it back on, even if it was on before tapping the button, which could be a huge problem if users accidentally tap on the button because then they need to go out of the project just to turn Advanced Mode back on.
I think the easier solution would be to store the previous state of advanced mode, then turn it back on if the stored state is equal to 1 (advanced mode on), once the user taps the button again.
Yep, the possibilities are limitless, because now THT can add some of the blocks we’ve been wanting for years without worrying about it overwhelming the beginners (because they’ll all be hidden). It may take several months or even a year for any of that to happen, but I’m sure it’ll all be worth it.
wait what?? this is like one of the simplest blocks, it’s easy to understand [& also one of the only blocks with no parameters! the only other one i can think of is “create a clone”.]! i don’t understand the inclusion of it on this list
Yeah, Flip, Change Pose, and Create a Clone (unless you modify it) are the only blocks without any parameters.
Flip might be hidden because the conditionals for checking if an object is flipped is also hidden. THT had to make some compromises when doing all this.
I think it would be cool if we could also customize the visibility of blocks so we could just have the ones we use the most show up, but that may be pushing it…
And of course, a search bar for our variables because I think it’s a hassle to go through every variable just to find one single variable.
honestly grow and shrink are so hard to use on a mathematical point (you grow by 40%, how much do you shrink to get it back? not 40%) that its actually pretty useless to have it as a block. id rather have grow and shrink being hidden by the LITE keyboard than having set size being hidden
