This event/competition/challenge is started by me (@affogato) and all the currencies, rewards, and prizes are handled by me, not Hopscotch. You can find other similar self-started events in Competitions & Events, or even start one yourself. Because this is started by me, Hopscotch and the forum leaders are not involved or responsible in any of the transactions here.

due to my last competition now being over, and the recent release of my music player, with the special feature added in, this competition was created with the hope of having some of you add your own beautiful songs into my music player!

Rules:
Use the CYO feature in my music player to encode your own song! either write your own from scratch or encode one you already know!
sadly there aren’t quite that many notes so you might be limited in what you can write, but do your best!

once you’ve created and encoded your song, copy/paste the string into a post in this topic and tag me. I’ll save the string and I’ll listen to your song, and I’ll judge the songs I hear!

please provide me with a title for your song as well.

Encoding Feature Tutorial

The string reader reads notes with three different symbols:
a number (the octave)
a letter (the note)
a number (normal note, sharp, or flat)

so for example, to play the sequence of notes “d d g f# d d e e d f# d e” you would write the sequence 1d01d01g01f11d01d01h01h01d01f11d01h0

current recognized notes and commands list can be found in the cyo feature.

if an unrecognized note is read, the reader will play an error sound

What is the delay of notes played next to one another, assuming the tempo is 60 BPM?

Speaking of tempo, what’s the default tempo in your project?

0.15 seconds i believe? let me check and i’ll get back to you

ah it’s 0.3

it speeds up and slows down (commands XXX and iii) by 0.15 which is why i thought that

command “mmm” pauses for 0.15 seconds so you can type mmmmmm to pause for 0.30 before reading the next note and so on

you can speed up notes by 0.15 by typing XXX and slow down by 0.15 by typing iii
you can do XXXXXX/iiiiii to speed/slow it even more

Here’s my entry, I composed it myself.
I couldn’t get the optimal range of notes, but I tried my best with what I had.
I hope it’s ok :)
