and suggested if it was possible to do something similar before saving the files as a fix
I suggested that a long time ago to Montoya but didn't get any traction then either.
But they said we can't prove that it completely works to reduce the file size,
Sure I can. The proof is in haveing done it numerous times.
also because they haven't been able to accurately reproduce the problem
I don't see how that's possible. It's completely repeatable.
and we can't prove that this doesn't accidentally delete other code.
Again, sure I can. Just compare the json data before & after. My program only removes orphaned traits & eventParameters that are referenced no where else. And again, I've done this numerous times without causing a single unintended consequence.
Do you know roughly how long you've been working on the project before it got to this state?
Every project I make starts to have noticeable editor lag within a few hours (I'd say less than 5hrs for sure) of activity on the project. Sometimes I have to fix the json data of a project twice in one day.
To be completely honest & blunt, this just smacks of THT just deciding instead of fixing Hopscotch to put their resources into other endeavors.
Maybe @MR.GAM3R could help you get the program working with Winebottler. He's used it successfully at least once
