More device variables

A feature I’d like to see in Hopscotch is:

I’d like to see more device variables such as direction (like a compass), approximate location, and ambient light sensor, battery and flashlight access and the ability to change settings on the device like volume and brightness. Of course the user can always opt out of any or all of these if they do not feel comfortable sharing this information.

I’d use it for this type of project:

A music project (for volume), an interactive/3D map (compass).

Here are some examples of Hopscotch code that could be improved if we had this:

In my astronomy game I could add an interactive sky based on your approximate location, direction, and tilt.

Here is an example design I’ve made:

Thanks for reading, I hope you like this idea. Remember, the user can opt out of any or all of these.

yes I agree this should exist

I don’t see how volume would be useful since volume isn’t a parameter on the start sound block

i think device volume is what matters?

Yeah but why?
How would you use it?

what if i said

check once if 10% < Device volume
set text (turn down your volume son!)

Setting it wouldn’t be but getting it would be, since you could detect it changing and use the volume buttons in your game.

I definitely like the compass one, I was going to make a topic suggesting that myself at some point.

i definitely want this to troll some people and make a compass that shouldn’t exist
