Hello Hopscotchers,
We’re writing to share an important update about the future of the Hopscotch Forum. After years of fostering creativity, collaboration, and connection, it’s time to transition to a new platform!
Join Hopscotch Discord. You can view a detailed instruction on how the migration works via this guide.
Why is this happening?
The Hopscotch Team made the decision to close down the forum. As a small team, we have limited resources when it comes to keeping the forum running while supporting community events to maximize the forum experience for Hopscotchers. While our incredible leaders have kindly helped run the forum for a long time, THT recognizes that this is not a sustainable way to manage the platform long-term. We want to focus our energy on enhancing our app on both iOS and the web so that we can bring new features to you more quickly. We’re deeply grateful for the Leaders’ efforts and the role they’ve played in maintaining this space for the community.
What happens next? How do I engage with other Hopscotchers without the forum?
Fortunately, the leaders have offered to build and maintain a Discord server after the forum is closed so that Hopscotchers can still have a place to interact with each other and discuss coding. Again, shout out to the @Leaders!
If you are under 18 years old, it’s best to consult with your parents before using a platform like Discord, even if you’re over 13 years old. It’s important to stay safe online!
Starting Wednesday, November 20, the Hopscotch Forum will remain fully functional for 1 month. During this period, you can browse, edit, and save any content you wish. You can also continue to post on the forum (And in case you’re wondering - if you spam or violate community guidelines you will still be banned from the forum during this time).
Here’s the timeline for the transition:
Key Dates:
- November 20 - December 20, 2024:
- Full functionality is available for all users.
- During this time, you can save, edit, and delete any posts you have created. You can also continue to post on the forum. This serves as a transitional period for everyone.
- December 21, 2024 - May 20, 2025:
- The forum will switch to read-only mode. During this time, no one will be able to log in to the forum or make any changes (this includes @Leaders, @Yuanyuan and anyone at THT).
- The purpose of the read-only period is for people to refer to any learning materials on the forum while THT archive the valuable information that Hopscotchers have shared on the forum.
- During this time, only the following categories will remain accessible:
- Videos & Learning Resources
- Open Source Code & How-Tos
- Hopscotch Language Evolution
- Hopscotch General
- All other categories and content will be permanently deleted.
- May 21, 2025:
- The forum will be permanently closed, and all content will no longer be accessible.
We understand the forum holds many cherished memories, and we’re committed to preserving valuable resources from the categories listed above. These archives will remain available during the five-month read-only period, and will be exported by Hopscotch after the five months to ensure no knowledge is lost. We will share with you how to access the content after the forum is closed.
Moving Forward: Join the New Hopscotch Discord Community!
To ensure the community continues to thrive, the @Leaders are excited to introduce a new Discord server built and maintained by community leaders (This means Hopscotch will not be making decisions on how the server should be run, but we’ll help out when needed).

The Discord platform offers:
- Enhanced moderation tools.
- A modern interface for better communication.
- A space run by the community, for the community.
The Hopscotch Team will also join the Discord server to answer questions and engage with you directly!
