How To Make A Platformer!

A lot of people have recently been asking “How do I make A Platformer” So I wanted to help you guys out!

STEP 1

Get @Spy_Guy_96 Collisions! You can do this by copying his code, or using @Awesome_E’s Presets!

BE SURE TO LEAVE CREDIT!

STEP 2

For movement, you want to create 2 variables! 1 being for X movement (I would name it X) and one being for Y movement (I would name It Y)

And you also want to make rules for self x and self Y. That will determine an objects Position

ALSO make a rule for Increasing X by (X) everytime your controls are pressed!

When you do that, you want to do this rule:

When game is playing:

Set (Position) To Self X divided by X, and for Y set that to Self Y, or A Y position you think is good!

Now, You have movement, and collisions!

All you need now is design, and jumping!

STEP 3

For jumping, add a rule for the height when your jump button is TAPPED! (DO NOT USE PRESSED UNLESS YOU ARE FOR A REASON IM NOT AWARE OF)

STEP 4

For design, it’s really your choice. Determine the colors, size etc. (REMEMBER TO SET IT’S POSITION IF IT’S moving in the bg!

That’s All for now, please give feedback, and I will update this for certain objects such as spikes, etc!

  • This helped me, thank you!

how does the actual code work though?

You want a pick?

?

no, I’d like to know why the method works

Huh? WDYM?

like break down the code to understand how the system spy guy made works

I assume since you made a tutorial on it you know how the method works

It’a just a lot of math and use of absolute value.

It determines your position from the object with collisions

i agree with @Nobody here. If you remember in my topic, I said “a good op asks essential questions and answers them,” but all you state is how the code is, not “why it works”

I just did tho
