They already did this with newer accounts, except it only applies in the app. It’s actually pretty bad as now there will be much less people who join Hopscotch.
I agree that IC is a problem, but non-code related projects in Newest aren’t the problem. The problem is that people put projects into categories when they don’t belong there. I think the worst part of this is people misusing #games; a category that’s actually meant for games (Really?? You’re saying that a category called #games is meant for actual games and not projects with the text “hi”???!??).
I have an idea, though.
Many people have suggested that #games should be limited to curated projects, but I have a better idea.
What if, there were a section in the app, where a user could request access to post projects in the category? Once a THT member saw it, they would approve the request. If they were approved, they would be able to post as many projects as they want in the category. If someone is not approved, they can request again at any time. Additionally, if someone is approved and they post things that aren’t even close to games in #games (the project’s contents would be checked), it will be revoked, in which they’ll still be able to request it back, but it will be up to THT whether or not they should accept it.
You would be able to add comments in the request, however it wouldn’t be necessary.
Users who were part of the Seed Developer Program or similar programs would receive this status automatically.
I like this idea, I agree, those tabs are really being misused
@t1_hopscotch Any way we could see something like this soon?
I’m mentioning you because I believe you’re a developer at Hopscotch if I rememeber correctly, or you know how to contact them. I hope that’s not inconvenient.
it’s the weekend, so it might take a bit for them to get back to ya
I’d like to correct myself: publishing projects isn’t behind a paywall.
Creating drafts in any form is behind a paywall.
You can go into a project and edit, but you can’t remix.
Older accounts don’t have the paywall but it’s still absolutely insane in my opinion.
Yeah I guess they took my advice because oof
Good thing the web explorer is still fine
Whatever the cause may have been, I guess it’s safe to say that just because an idea seems good on paper doesn’t mean it’s going to be good in execution.
that’s really true actually, on paper, you might think adding a paywall to coding would give Hopscotch more money. but when executed, it limits the amount of people that can actually access the app.
What that’s really weird? I thought they removed it.
Also about the whole “hashtag categories are being misused” thing, it’s very important to understand that if the question tabs weren’t put on hold for five months, people would actually have a way to get people to recognize their games. I think having projects going under review before putting on the hashtag categories is a great idea but it’s important to understand that there’s a reason this issue exists. Yes it wasn’t perfect when curation was active, but curation needs to be an addition to ways to get projects popular, not the only.
yes, but the ratio of moderators to projects would make that system slow but effective. imo, this is a great idea with some modifications.
Yes there are tons of projects that aren’t coding-related, but I’m starting to realize that the solution isn’t to stop them, but to uplift people making games. Also by encouraging people to talk on the forum, and make coding seem like something anyone can do (which THT has done a good job at this).
Do you think someone who gets their chats removed will stay on HS after? Likely not, they’ll just go on a different platform. But if people making games is pushed hard enough and shown, and when they make chats they’re shown the forum, they might grow and be a amazing member of the community.
100%, I second this ^^
I think the users themselves should have to request for the ability to put games in the games tab, with SDP/ex-SDP members automatically receiving the ability, as I mentioned previously.
Yeah, they shouldn’t stop them.
Try to encourage them, and add more separation from non-games and actual games.
Slightly unrelated, but the Newest tab should stay though and that is that. There is no point in removing it and it would only make things worse if they did.
rps is role-playing, as long as it’s appropriate and suitable for all ages, it shout be fine. additionally, there is literally a “#story” tab in the app.
I disagree but understand what you mean, giving seed developers special stuff is very flawed as it promotes the idea of how you needed to be on HS years ago to actually get anywhere. There isn’t anymore SDPs so giving them privileges is a slap on the face to anyone who is just starting out. They might have the best games in the world but not have those privileges because they just joined which is unfair.
true, lots of people (including me) say that it’s just spam—but in reality it’s a tab that shows every project published. if you just see spam, that’s most likely circumstantial—as it honestly depends on when you’re looking at the tab.
most sdps’ weren’t on the app for that long. and their privileges are practically the privileges of subscribers now. and they were chosen by THT depending on their submissions, so it seems fair. that’s just my opinion tho
Yeah but lots of people who want to be seed developers never got the chance because they didn’t join in time. So if they give seed developers privileges they should at least let new people join.
