Hi @Rodrigo and welcome back

Were you one of the people who designed the hopscotch characters?

Hello @Rodrigo !

I noticed on your website you said you are a UI/UX designer which is so cool! When i’m older I actually want to go into UI/UX design for games! Also backing up Tri’s (short for Tri-Angle) idea I would love to see a dark mode on the app! I also think a major issue that needs to be fixed is that some people have their coding bar at the bottom of the screen blank or moved too high on the screen (where it’s untappable) for a solid 10-15 seconds on larger projects. This causes the coding process to be super tedious for many coders, for context i’m using a 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

Also should we only ask you about design suggestions/concerns or can we ask you about other stuff relating to HS as well?

Again it’s great to meet you and I really look up to you as an aspiring UI/UX designer!

I definitely agree. It’s a very annoying visual glitch that significantly hinders a lot of coding. The actual functions of the buttons didn’t get offset, so they act as if the blocks drawer never got offset. And the larger the project, the longer the drawer stays offset (to the point where most users will just quit the app… yes, that is taking things to the extreme, but it could very well happen)

I am too on an 12.9" iPad Pro… (iPad13,8)

Me too. I think a shade like HSB(0,0,9)/RGB(24,24,24)/#181818 would be perfect for a dark mode background…

Hey, welcome back @Rodrigo!

Super exciting, can’t wait to see what comes out of this!

Something I’ve been stuck on with larger projects in Hopscotch is just the number of bugs or similar performance issues in the player – would love to see those resolved because as a project gets larger, I find myself fighting how block execution in Hopscotch works more than I do figuring out the logic for my code.

I also think it’d be super cool to see an official implementation of multiplayer, whether that’s similar or different from my own version of it. I think it’d be a huge advancement in terms of what the app can do!

Omg! The man. The myth. The legend!

The return of Rodrigo! Woah!

So happy to hear you’ve returned to HS! Can’t wait to see what new things you bring to the table this time!

a third octave for the “start sound” block. that is all i ask

A lower octave and an upper octave in the play note block is what I need. A 5 octave range would be all I need to play a wide variety of music…

The play note block does have a 3rd octave, although admittedly, it does require Advanced Mode to use…

And what about color variables? (Not to be confused with HSB/RGB, or the default colors)
Isn’t that also what you want?

I second this. And I wonder if lists could potentially simply things (not for the implementation, but for the usage overall)…

Hey! Welcome back @Rodrigo! I remember you!
I don’t think we’ve interacted though, so I’m Fundardo, semi-retired hopscotcher but thinking about making a project soon.

Anyways, to respond to this

First off, before I start my wishlist, I just want to say that I really like Hopscotch as an app and would easily recommend it over any other coding app to a beginner

Anyways, if there is one thing that often stops me from turning my ideas into actual projects, it’s custom sounds

Custom sounds

That said, I feel like the thing that I’m missing the most in my games is custom sounds, as a person who makes music, I would love to add (non-vocal) soundtracks to my projects, but also just sound effects in general. The current library feels extremely limited.
If you wanted to make moderation for this less difficult, maybe you could have a Hopscotch-wide “sound library” where people upload their sounds once and then the sounds can be reused by multiple people over multiple projects so like that less sounds are being uploaded to moderate.
(also with custom sounds, volume (and panning if possible) would be nice)
Sound design is after all one of the fundamental aspects of game creation… a good game without sounds is mediocre, a good game with good sounds is amazing.
If custom sounds are too complicated, as others requested, maybe an extended library of SFX and notes, also instruments.
I think it’s only fair for these to be a part of the subscription, as custom images are

All the following are wayyy less important to me than custom sounds but if you’re looking for ideas:

Draft folders

Draft folders would be amazing (especially if folders in the folders are allowed), because I have a LOT of drafts, never could really organize them. The same goes for published projects, I’m thinking maybe an extra page similar to the “playlist” section on YouTube channels, so you could efficiently organize game-series and stuff like that. Again, this one is very secondary but I feel like it could be really interesting

Inter-project variables

I made a topic on this a while ago, this would also imply inter-project purchases which would simply be amazing

Importing user variables from your other games

And there is some confusion in the comments on that so let me clear it up a bit: this wouldn’t be for all variables, you would select a few that cou would want to reuse (maybe a limited amount?) as inter-project variables.

Also since you’re a designer, if you want a Halloween character, @/tankt2016 once came up with “count toucula” and a design

only image I could find of his majesty :(

Anyways, happy to see you back, and hope you enjoy your stay at Hopscotch!

yes color variables would be nice but i figured out a way to sidestep that

a third octave for “start sound” is all i ask

Oh wow, 6 years of working at hopscotch?!?! Welcome back!

I’m not sure they’ll add a 3rd octave for the Start Sound block because 1. It would make Play Note block pretty much worthless (at least it still has more instruments than Start Sound), and 2. It might get even more overwhelming for beginners (as there’s already so many sounds included for the block)…

how 'bout the third octave not getting added to the lite keyboard

I don’t think the Lite keyboard affects parameter values, just the actual blocks…

If you ask me, even 3 octaves isn’t enough…

I would need an octave range from 36 to 96 (5 octaves) to play Minecraft Volume Alpha: Living Mice without any missing notes… (the lowest the song goes is note 40, and the highest is note 88)

worth a shot

Maybe if custom sounds get added, you’ll never have to worry about not enough octaves again (or the lack of instruments). The only thing you’d have to worry about is how big the song can be for the project to be able to be published. High chance it’ll cost 50 seeds like custom art, but I’m willing to pay you 50 seeds for it (I got way too many anyways).
