If you are wondering what 3 divided by 14 is, wait no longer! First convert 3 into 3/1 and convert 14 into 14/1. Next, change them into 1/3 and 1/14. Then multiply them together. The answer should be 1/42. :grinning:

#2

But its 3/14???
I dont understand what you are trying to say

I think you meant
3/1 / 14/1
14/1 --> 1/14
3/1 x 1/14
=. 3/14

Great tutorial, this will be very helpful for a lot of people!

We have a general math topic for posting things like these you should check out:

#4

No, no no. You are only meant to flip the second fraction around (reciprocal).

#5

Great idea! But sadly, this is incorrect :confused:

3/14 ~ 0.2142857..
1/42 ~ 0.0238095..

However,

(1/42) * 9 = (3/14)

3/14 = 1/x

x = 14/3 — the reciprocal

3/14 = 1/(4.66666666..)

I see you like math! You might like the numberphile topic :smiley:

However, 3 divided by 14 is not 1/42
When dividing, you should find the reciprocal of the second number, which in this case would be 14. The reciprocal of 14 is 1/14.

Then you multiply them together. 3 X 1/14 is 3/14. :wink:

Happy…mathing!

Yes! I love math!
I created the Numberphile topic by the way :wink:
Good to know that people are spreading it, though! Thanks! :smile:

#8

I do too!

I know…

#9

Oh, ok, it sounded as if you were recommending to me my own topic, sorry :sweat_smile:

Ok I did do my best try. Next time I’ll do another weird question on paper.

I realised I used the division strategy!!!:frowning::fearful:. Embarrassed but happy you corrected me.

It’s ok :wink: We all make mistakes
