I don’t know, either way would work. Back then, you couldn’t change it to pure black either, but they changed the color to make it black when you select it. The purple-black color is still used when you set color based on variables also, so maybe it was never fully transitioned

This looks like a bug and not a feature. Surely Hopscotch has a seed bounty for demonstrable bugs.

it’s not a bug, you can change the text’s color to completely black by setting the RSB (or something like that) to 0,0,0
